Match Me.N.U.

Overview

I designed a mobile dating app concept focused on creating more meaningful and efficient connections by prioritizing user preferences and reducing unnecessary interactions. The app emphasizes personalization, clarity, and intentional matching.

The Problem

Many existing dating apps rely on endless scrolling and surface-level matching, leading to:

  • Irrelevant profile suggestions

  • Repetitive small talk conversations

  • User frustration and disengagement

This creates a disconnect between user intentions and actual outcomes.

  • Role: UX Designer

  • Tools: Figma

  • Timeline: Spetember 2024 - May 2025

  • Focus: Personalization, meaningful interaction, and user control

The Users

This concept is designed for:

  • Intentional users seeking meaningful relationships

  • Users frustrated with ā€œdoom scrollingā€ through irrelevant matches

  • Individuals who value transparency and compatibility upfront

These users want efficient, honest, and personalized dating experiences.

Design Approach

1. Preference-Driven Matching

The core feature focuses on detailed user preferences:

  • Users can customize profile depth and visibility

  • ā€œIdeal partnerā€ profile helps guide algorithmic matching

  • Feed prioritizes highly relevant matches

This reduces time spent browsing and increases match quality.

3. Meaningful Communication

To improve interaction quality:

  • Profiles display key information upfront to skip basic questions

  • Built-in chat and audio message feature

This supports a smoother transition from matching to real connection.

2. Streamlined Onboarding & Profile Creation

Users are guided through a structured setup:

  • Input personal details and preferences

  • Upload photos, video, or audio responses

  • Choose which information to display publicly

This balances personalization with user privacy.

4. User Control & Safety

The app includes features to improve comfort and trust:

  • Ability to hide certain profile categories

  • Option to block contacts from personal phone lists

  • Adjustable notification settings

These features give users greater control over their experience.

Outcome

The concept creates a more intentional and user-focused dating experience that:

  • Reduces unnecessary browsing and frustration

  • Encourages meaningful conversations earlier

  • Gives users more control over their interactions and privacy

Reflection

This project helped me explore how UX design can shift user behavior from passive browsing to intentional engagement. By focusing on personalization and clarity, I was able to design an experience that supports deeper, more meaningful connections.
